Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a therapeutic approach based on scientific principles of learning, used to improve or modify socially significant behaviors. For certified specialists in behavior therapies, ABA involves designing personalized interventions to address specific developmental goals and reduce problematic behaviors. This therapy is applied intensively and systematically, focusing on reinforcing positive behaviors and teaching new skills. In the case of children, this may include improvements in communication, social skills, autonomy, and academic abilities.
The specific goals of ABA therapy are determined through a comprehensive assessment of the child’s skills and challenges. Certified specialists in behavior therapies will conduct a detailed analysis to identify areas that require intervention. These goals are set collaboratively, taking into account the family’s long-term goals and the unique needs of the child. Flexibility to adjust goals as therapy progresses is an integral part of the ABA approach.
Certified specialists in behavior therapies have undergone specific training and adhere to professional standards in applying ABA therapy. Their expertise extends to accurate assessment, designing effective intervention plans, and continuous adaptation to individual needs. Certification ensures a level of competence essential for delivering positive results and lasting benefits to individuals seeking to improve their behavior and skills.
Lucio & Lucas Corp. provides therapy with children as young as 18 months old and our team creates personalized therapy plans to promote continued growth and advancement for each kid. Your child should begin ABA therapy as soon as possible after receiving an autism diagnosis. Research indicates the earlier kiddos begin receiving therapy, the greater the likelihood of learning and retaining long lasting and life changing skills. Additionally, the sooner therapy begins, the sooner a child begins catching up on critical skills promoting desired levels of independence and development as he/she grows older. Every child learns at a different pace and faces unique barriers impacting the rate of learning.
Depending on your child’s individual needs, time in therapy ranges from 20 to 30 hours per week. As your child meets his/her goals and progresses, the amount of therapy time prescribed reduces. Simply put, we want your child to succeed and demonstrate overall independence with the skills that are most meaningful for him/her, as soon as possible, so that ABA therapy is no longer needed. We look forward to celebrating every graduation from therapy.
